Welcome to the month of August 2021. I am very excited about this month, as it’s my birthday month and I am even more excited as I’ve been reminded to spend more time better understanding my gifts.

Our spiritual gifts are given by the God- the Holy Spirit.

The gifts of the Spirit have to do with a person’s spiritual gifts for the service of the Lord. These gifts of the Spirit are given instantly for the purpose of ministry. The spiritual gifts of the Spirit are given to every believer for the purpose of ministerial assignments, but they are not necessarily a means of judging the depth of a person’s spiritual life. People often mistake that just because a person may speak in tongues means they are superior to others. And where we have made this mistake, let’s repent before the Lord, because we should not think of ourselves to be better than others. We are all equally loved by the Lord, irrelevant of who we are and what we’ve not or what we’re not doing. Yes, our lives are not always pleasing to the Lord, but that doesn’t mean that He loves us any less. He only desires for us to surrender unto Him, so that he can help us to live in His perfect will for our lives.

Natural gifts and talents people are endowed with from birth. Just as we do not choose our natural talents, we also do not select the gifts of the Spirit. They are given to us as the Holy Spirit wills.

The manifestations of the gifts of the Spirit are given to each believer based on God’s divine choosing and the ministry needs of each individual situation and calling. The gifts of the Spirit are as follows: (1) Word of Knowledge (2) Word of Wisdom (3) Gift of Prophecy (4) Gift of Faith (5) Gifts of Healing (6) The Working of Miracles (7) Discerning of Spirits (8) Speaking in Tongues (9) Interpretation of Tongues ~ 1 Corinthians 12.

And today as I was studying this topic, I realised that God freely gives these spiritual gifts to us as He wills. There is nothing that we can do to deserve or earn it. Another portion of scripture (Romans 12:6-8) shares that our spiritual gifts are from God.

So you, like I have, may ask why God give us these spiritual gifts. Let’s look at what the Word says:

1 Corinthians 14:12

New King James Version
Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel.

New International Version
So it is with you. Since you are eager for gifts of the Spirit, try to excel in those that build up the church.

New Living Translation
And the same is true for you. Since you are so eager to have the special abilities the Spirit gives, seek those that will strengthen the whole church.

So from the scripture above, we are given spiritual gifts for building up or edifying the believers.

Spiritual gifts are for strengthening others.

To strengthen someone by a spiritual gift means to help their faith not give way as easily when trouble or difficulties enters their life. We have spiritual gifts in order to help other people keep the faith and remain steadfast in and through life’s storms. If there is anybody around you whose faith is being threatened or challenged in any way at all, ask yourself whether you may have a spiritual gift especially suited to strengthen that person.

We need to earnestly desire the spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit. And you shouldn’t try to hard to label your spiritual gift before you use it. That is, don’t worry about whether you can point it to prophecy, or teaching, or wisdom, or knowledge, or healing, or miracles, or mercy, or administration, etc., and say, “That’s my gift.” The way to think is this: the reason we have spiritual gifts is so that we can strengthen other people’s faith; here is someone whose faith is in jeopardy; how can I help him? Then do or say what seems most helpful for the person, and if the person is helped, then you may have discovered one of your gifts or recognised the gift. And remember Holy Spirit gives the gift as He wills and what is needed for the situation and the person.

We are living in a world where many people are suffering, and your gift may just be what they need to live and thrive.

I hope this information blesses you, as much as it blesses me. I pray that you will continue to desire to walk a more intimate walk with the Lord and allow Him to guide you and use you to be blessing to others.

God bless you.
