Wow, what a year it’s been. For many it’s been a traumatic, challenging, disturbing, unpleasant, and strange here. For some it’s been a good year and for some 2020 has been there best year yet!
For me personally, 2020 has been a good year, with a few challenges and hurdles that were overcome and some still lingering on…but that will be overcome too. This I am certain of because I know that I am winner and winners always win! I was made to win through and in every challenging situation that I face or may face. And I would like to say to you today that we are all winners!
Winning is a state of the mind. It is a decision that we make, that no matter what happens we will win. It is an intention that we make, that no matter what things look like we will succeed, and we will win.
Winning is personal. The type of winning that I am referring to is not about competing with others, like you would do in a normal running race. Rather it’s about focusing on your own race. It’s about running your own race to win. We all have our own dreams and goals and when you realise that winning is not about competing with others, but rather it’s about being true to yourself and honouring your commitments, your dreams, and your goals. When you can do this then it becomes an experience that brings fulfilment like no other.
Running reminds me of the importance of endurance and perseverance. So, when you prepare to run your race remember that to win, you need to remind yourself that hard times will come and sometimes you will feel like giving up, but in the end, you will make it and you will win.
Winning means that you will need to endure and persevere through the pain, through the discomfort, through the uncertainty, through the obstacles, through the failures, but in the end, winning is your destination! And as you understand and embrace this, you are already halfway there.
I like what Hebrews 12: 1 says, it says: “let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
2 Timothy 4:7 says:
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
What freedom we experience when we realise that we have finished our race. Finishing is winning. So, whatever you decide to take on, ensure that you will finish it and then do just that!
And where does this confidence come from? Well for me it is a knowing, the assurance and the understanding that I was born to win. Why, because the One who made me, put this hope on the inside of me.
“but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.”
So, let’s make a conscious decision that through the enablement and empowerment that we receive from the Lord, we will win the race laid out before us.
